Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, and for the past 52 years has resulted in policy change and a greater awareness of the environment.
The Earth Day 2022 theme is Invest in Our Planet and features five primary programs: The Great Global Cleanup, Sustainable Fashion, Climate and Environmental Literacy, Canopy Project, Food and Environment, and the Global Earth Challenge.
To commemorate Earth day and invest in the planet, the Initiative for green and waste free societies (IGWAS) empowered 15 waste pickers with personal protective equipment (PPE) within Abuja city, Nigeria to ensure their safety while making sure the city and environment is waste free.
